NECK & UPPER BACK PAIN

Back Pain

WHERE MOBILITY
MEETS STABILITY

Neck and upper back pain are among the most common conditions affecting daily comfort,
movement, and quality of life. Symptoms may include neck stiffness, muscle tension, pain
between the shoulder blades, upper trapezius tightness, limited neck mobility, and discomfort
with sitting, working, exercising, or sleeping. These symptoms can develop from poor posture, prolonged computer use, repetitive activities, injuries, stress, or dysfunction of the muscles and joints of the cervical and upper thoracic spine.

Our providers perform a comprehensive evaluation of your neck, upper back, posture, breathing patterns, and movement mechanics to identify the underlying factors contributing to your pain and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Treatment focuses on restoring normal movement, reducing muscle tension, and improving the strength and coordination needed to support the neck and upper back. Hands-on manual therapy is used to improve mobility of the cervical and thoracic spine, decrease tightness in the surrounding muscles, and reduce sensitivity in irritated tissues. Individualized therapeutic exercises help improve posture, strengthen the deep neck and postural muscles, restore shoulder blade control, and improve flexibility where restrictions are present. Because the neck, jaw, shoulders, and upper back function as an interconnected system, we also evaluate how posture, TMJ dysfunction, and breathing mechanics may contribute to ongoing symptoms.

Chronic neck and upper back pain are often influenced by stress, muscle guarding, prolonged positions, and inefficient movement patterns. Our approach includes posture retraining, ergonomic education, breathing strategies, relaxation techniques, and neuromuscular re-education to help reduce unnecessary tension and improve body awareness. Patients learn practical strategies to manage symptoms throughout the day and prevent recurring episodes of pain. By combining evidence-based manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and individualized
education, our goal is to decrease pain, improve mobility, restore confidence with movement, and help you return to work, exercise, and daily activities with greater comfort and ease.
