Lecture Overview

This interactive lecture provides a practical, evidence-based overview of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain. Participants explore normal and dysfunctional TMJ anatomy and biomechanics, distinguish myofascial pain from intra-articular disorders, and examine the relationship between the cervical spine, posture, and jaw function. The presentation also reviews the comprehensive physical therapy evaluation of patients with TMD, including cervical and upper-quarter screening, and discusses current conservative treatment strategies such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, dry needling, patient education, and habit modification. Contemporary research is integrated throughout to highlight the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in improving patient outcomes.

  • Recognize the influence of cervical spine dysfunction and posture on TMJ disorders.
